Here is proof of civil religion’s appeal to both sides of the Reformation. What is surprising is that American civil religion was anti-Catholic. Amazing how the culture wars make the anathemas of Trent vanish.

Thanks for posting this. It is getting harder and harder to vote Republican when this is what I am surrounded with. Isn’t it amazing how both the North and the South “discovered” God in the Civil War? Everybody wins!
