Very nice meditation, Dr. Hart. Thank you. I am also comforted that our Lord Jesus prays for us perfectly, even when ours are less than mature.

Is it just a matter of proportion in regard to asking for things personal in prayer? Matt. 7: 7-11 appears to have Christ instructing us to ask for what we need and our Father in Heaven is willing to give good things to us because of our asking. Obviously this passage needs to be tempered by other places in Scripture that give instruction in prayer, but it does tell us that God is good and is willing to give to us good things. Is this in line with the point your making here or am I missing what you're saying?

Also, with regard to prayer requests in Church. I'm a part of an OPC Church and we know that the prayers offered during the worship services will be certain to cover all of the petitions and we therefore ask primarily for our personal needs to be addressed.

When it comes to meetings outside of the normal worship service it becomes obvious that personal needs take precedent and I see the obvious problems with that, but in our services that doesn't appear to ever be an issue. That definitely would not be the case in the churches where I formerly worshipped.
