Great tape- worth listening to. Living the Christian life like Machen did is a very bitter sweet experience. You get pummeled and accused of things that make worldly success and recognition a pipe dream. It must make one wonder whether he is doing what God has called him to. However, when you look at the lives of those who really have depth in what they accomplished this is exactly the pattern of how their lives unfolded. Luther called this afechtung I believe. It is a pressure which makes you doubt if you are doing the right thing and teaching what is truly scriptural truth. It is not a comfortable emotion and situation to deal with but it seems to be the lot of those who continue fighting against the spirit of their own times.
