  1. Your parents were good examples of sacrificial givers.

    Re. the minimum wage. I hope there are not too many adults that have to work for minimum wage. By the time you are an adult you need to be developing or have developed skills that command more in the free marketplace. Hopefully the only ones working for minimum wage are young people who need the experience and lessons that an entry level job teaches. The problem with raising the minimum wage is some of these jobs and experiences go away when you do it. There is no such thing as a free lunch, as much as politicians fall all over themselves trying to give us free lunches.

  2. Considering the composition of the Supreme Court at the time, the decision probably also had a lot to do with social Darwinism than with the Puritans, unless the author is using “Puritan” to refer to mainline Protestants of northern European descent.
