  1. Wow. Talk about wearing it on your sleeve, “PrayerWatch” literally has an image of someone wrapped in the flag.

  2. The D. Min. degree as David Wells so accurately described it is “a degree by linguistical inflation” -and the one he got is from a correspondance ‘school’.The other two are likewise non-academic honorary degrees

  3. Lillback believes you can actually know God’s providence in history? Oh man, he could use some retraining at WSC.

Ancient Israelite #1: God through his providence parted the Red Sea so that we might enter the promised land.

Ancient Israelite #2: Why of course we believe in providence but we must be careful not to assign certain historical events to providence because if you’ll notice those folks turned to idols almost immediately and who’s to say if that was not just an event occurring thru Natrual Law?

  4. Ancient Calvinist #1: George Washington sure is a humdinger of a Christian because he prays about providence a lot.

    Ancient paleo-Calvinist #2: Nah.

  5. By the way, I see some important differences between Pharoah and King George. I believe the Bible tells me so.

It seems to me the problem isn’t assigning all events to providence, but rather how they get interpreted or interpreted at all. 9/11 was just as much an act of providence as much as that cool breeze that woke me up this morning (the Red Sea was more than providence, it was redemptive-history). But if something like Dt. 29:29 has much to say, plumbing the depths of either event in order to explain it to finite minds is actually forbidden. There’s good reason for that. Hint: 9/11 likely wasn’t a cosmic comment on capitalism or gay pride parades.

George Washington was an important American father who was also a pious Anglican. So what?
