Thank you for sharing the Glen Loury/John McWhorter link.
McWhorter: The violent protesters are driven by religion- viz., the religion of “being good” by “acting out” a stand against racism.
Loury: The violent protesters are driven by a lust for power, wanting to be in control by telling everyone how to think and wanting to determine the meta-narrative.
While I think McWhorter’s observation is true in some cases, it seems that Loury’s observation is most often true: not just with racial protests, but also with issues of gender, political preference, and every other category.
Either way, the root issue is the same: our fists are raised against the Most High God and what is desired is a dynasty change in heaven. Hubris drives both motives while humility and child-like trust is disdained.
Thank God that He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth and He DOES bring the princes and rulers of this world to nothing (Isaiah 40). And He will bring His pilgrim people safely home in the midst of Berkeley’s bombast.
Thank you again for sharing this discussion. I sure do appreciate Glen Loury’s insights.
